Transcatheter Heart Valve Therapies

At Apex Heart Institute, Department of Transcatheter Heart Valve Therapies is currently the most experienced TAVR and TMVR centre in the state of Gujarat with significantly high success rate even in complex cases.

Department is led by Dr. Aman Tejas Patel who got trained at UMC heart centre in Astana under expert guidance of Prof. Abdurashid Mussayev who is one of the the world authority for these procedures.

At Apex Heart Institute, we are proud to offer advanced transcatheter valve therapies – TAVR and TMVR – for patients with severe aortic and mitral valve disease. Currently we are leading the state with the highest volume of transcatheter heart valve replacement program with exceptional success rates even in extremely high risk cases.

These innovative, minimally invasive procedures are transforming outcomes for patients who are at high surgical risk or seeking faster recovery with reduced complications.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)

What is TAVR?

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is a cutting-edge procedure that replaces a narrowed aortic valve (aortic stenosis) without open-heart surgery. A new valve is implanted via a catheter—usually through the femoral artery.

Ideal for:
Patients with severe aortic stenosis, especially those who are:
  • Elderly
  • High-risk or inoperable for surgical valve replacement
  • Symptomatic (chest pain, breathlessness, fatigue)
Benefits:
  • No General Anaesthesia
  • No Heart Lung Bypass
  • Minimally invasive
  • Quick recovery
  • Reduced hospital stay (around 3 days)
  • Improved long-term outcomes

Transcatheter Mitral Valve (TMVR)

What is TMVR?

Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair/Replacement (TMVR) is an evolving and life-saving alternative to surgery for patients with mitral regurgitation (MR) or mitral valve failure, especially when surgery is too risky.

We offer:
  • Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) using Mitral Valve Clip
  • Transcatheter Mitral Valve-in-Valve/Valve-in-Ring procedures
  • TMVR for native mitral valve disease (in select cases)
Ideal for:
  • Patients with moderate to severe mitral regurgitation
  • Degenerated surgical mitral bioprosthesis or failed repair rings
  • Heart failure patients with functional MR
  • Benefits:
    • No open-heart surgery
    • Immediate symptom relief
    • Preserved heart function
    • Lower procedural risk in high-risk individuals

Mitral Valve Clip Therapy for Mitral Valve Repair

What is Mitral Valve Clip?

Mitral Valve Clip is a minimally invasive treatment for mitral regurgitation (MR) — a condition where the mitral valve leaks, allowing blood to flow backward. Using a catheter-based approach, a tiny clip is placed on the mitral valve to help it close more effectively, improving heart function and reducing symptoms.

We Offer:

At Apex Heart Institute, we specialize in percutaneous Mitral Valve Clip therapy with a dedicated structural heart team, world-class imaging support, and a hybrid cath lab for real-time precision. Our specialists are trained in the latest international techniques to deliver exceptional outcomes.

Ideal for:
  • Patients with severe mitral regurgitation
  • Those unsuitable for open-heart surgery
  • Elderly patients or those with multiple health conditions
  • Patients experiencing heart failure symptoms due to valve leakage
Benefits:
  • No open-heart surgery — completely catheter-based
  • Shorter hospital stay and faster recovery
  • Improves symptoms like breathlessness and fatigue
  • Proven therapy with global approvals (FDA, CE)

Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) Closure

What is LAA Closure?

LAA Closure is a minimally invasive procedure that prevents stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF). It involves sealing off the left atrial appendage — a common site for clot formation — using a device like WATCHMAN™ or Amplatzer™, reducing the need for lifelong blood thinners.

We offer:

Apex Heart Institute provides advanced LAA Closure solutions with a team of expert interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists. Our cutting-edge equipment and precision-guided imaging make the procedure safe, effective, and tailored to each patient.

Ideal for:
  • Patients with atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke
  • Those who cannot tolerate long-term anticoagulation
  • Individuals with a history of bleeding complications or GI bleeds
Benefits:
  • Significantly reduces stroke risk
  • Minimally invasive — performed via a groin puncture
  • Avoids lifelong dependence on blood thinners
  • Ideal for patients at high bleeding risk
